About Us

The Urban Canine grew out of our love for animals. We are a local pet food and supply store that provides everything you need to keep your pets happy and healthy! We understand the special bond between pets and their owners, and we want to encourage that kind of love in everyone. There are many options out there and we are here to help guide and educate you in finding the right products for your pet. We provide a range of products from toys and treats, supplements, CBD oil and much more!

Pet ownership is a rewarding responsibility, and with this in mind we want to keep those tails wagging and those purrs purring by helping you find the right products that suit your pets needs. Stop on by and talk with any of our well educated and friendly staff members, we would love to help you with all of your pet questions!  

Meet the Team

Mateo

Owner
Mateo's journey with The Urban Canine started back in 2015 when he joined as a regular employee. Over the years, his passion for pet nutrition and genuine love for animals helped him grow into a leader, and in 2023, took the leap and purchased the business. A proud rescue advocate, Mateo is a huge supporter of Rescue4All and shares a home with two rescue dogs of his own, Anya and Shyla. When he's not at the store, you'll likely find him out on an adventure with the pups or at a Cars & Coffee event mingling with people in the car community.

Erika

Owner
Erika joined The Urban Canine in 2023 and quickly became the backbone of everything that happens behind the scenes. From HR to day-to-day operations, she's the one making sure things run the way they should. Though if you stop by one of the stores, there's a good chance you'll find her right there in the thick of it, lending a hand wherever it's needed. Erika shares Mateo's love for rescue animals and is a proud co-parent to their two dogs, Anya and Shyla, both adopted through Rescue4All.

Christina

North Store Manager
Christina has been part of The Urban Canine family since 2019. Originally from Indiana, she brings a genuine passion for pet nutrition to everything she does, always eager to chat about the best ways to keep dogs and cats thriving. At home, she’s outnumbered by her own crew: three cats and a rescue dog named Gizmo, who’s clearly taught her a thing or two about the difference between good food and great food!

Bronwyn

Sales Associate
Bronwyn joined the team in 2024. Born and raised in Western Washington, Bronwyn has been an animal lover since they were a child. They’ve lived with and taken care if a variety or animals; including dogs, cats, rodents, birds, and horses. They’ve worked with dogs for years, both in daycares and in dog-training. Bronwyn moved to Spokane in the summer or 2021, and now lives with their partner where they have a dog (pictured) Otis and a brown Tabby cat named Noodle. Outside of work, you can find them at a park, on a hike, at a bookstore, café hopping, or chilling at home with their fur babies.

Sophie

Sales Associate
Sofie is the newest member of our team, joining us in 2025. She is a lover of all animals (bugs included) but has an affinity for elderly dogs, specifically her newly adopted doodle Gage. He loves car rides and sampling pup cups from all over the town when they visit new coffee shops.
